چکیده

Adiabatic radio frequency (RF) pulses are in widespread use in biomedical magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy. The primary advantage of adiabatic pulses is that provided the condition for adiabaticity is satisfied they can be made insensitive to inhomogeneities in the RF field. In this pedagogical article the principles of adiabatic fast passage (AFP) are explained, and the use of AFP to invert both stationary and flowing spin systems is examined. The hyperbolic secant pulse is presented as a pulse capable of performing slice selective adiabatic inversion. Lower power alternatives to this pulse are described, and the principle of offset independent constant adiabaticity is elucidated. Instantaneous reversal of the orientation of the effective RF field as a means of producing excitation and refocusing pulses is presented, as are methods of obtaining slice selective excitation with these pulses. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Designing and Fabrication of a New Radiofrequency Planar microcoil for mini-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

Introduction Radiofrequency planar microcoils are used to increase the resolution of magnetic resonance images of small samples. In this study, we aimed to design and fabricate a spiral planar microcoil constructed on a double-sided printed circuit board (PCB). It has four rings with an internal diameter of 241 microns tuned and matched at 63.8 MHz. Materials and Methods To achieve the maximum ...

Self-refocused adiabatic pulse for spin echo imaging at 7 T.

Spin echo pulse sequences are used to produce clinically important T(2) contrast. However, conventional 180° radiofrequency pulses required to generate a spin echo are highly susceptible to the B(1) inhomogeneity at high magnetic fields such as 7 Tesla (7 T), resulting in varying signal and contrast over the region of interest. Adiabatic 180° pulses may be used to replace conventional 180° puls...

Improved Broadband Inversion Performance for NMR in Liquids

New NMR broadband inversion pulses that compensate both for resonance offset and radiofrequency (RF) inhomogeneity are described. The approach described is a straightforward computer optimization of an initial digitized waveform generated from either a constant-amplitude frequency sweep or from an existing composite inversion pulse. Problems with convergence to local minima are alleviated by th...

Hybrid adiabatic-rectangular pulse train for effective saturation of magnetization within the whole heart at 3 T.

Uniform T(1)-weighting is a major challenge for first-pass cardiac perfusion MRI at 3 T. Previously proposed adiabatic amplitude of radiofrequency field (B(1))-insensitive rotation (BIR-4) pulse and standard and tailored pulse trains of three nonselective pulses have been important developments but each pulse has limitations at 3 T. As an extension of the tailored pulse train, we developed a hy...

"Shim pulses" for NMR spectroscopy and imaging.

A way to use adiabatic radiofrequency pulses and modulated magnetic-field gradient pulses, together constituting a "shim pulse," for NMR spectroscopy and imaging is demonstrated. These pulses capitalize on phase shifts derived from probe gradient coils to compensate for nonlinear intrinsic main magnetic field homogeneity for spectroscopy, as well as for deviations from linear gradients for imag...
